Personally, having a quick look, I'd go for Vista Premium, and 2gb of RAM, which would whack another £90 on the basic price. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

... and I, personally, would rather not have to pay the extra £90!
Sorry for bumping this thread but I'd appreciate any further comments from you technical guys.
Please bear in mind that I do zero downloading of music etc and that my need is only for a basic sytem which would cope with surfing, emailing and wordprocessing.
At £329 for the 531 plus 19" monitor, this system looks good to me...
... but would it cope adequately with my requirements?0 -
It looks good value to me.
If you find it needs more memory - it's probably cheaper to get it elsewhere later.
Consider £10 extra for 250 Gb hard drive - if you think you'll be able to use it.
Use Quidco or TopCashBack for 5% back on pre VAT price - approx £15 back0 -

This can be done, can it? Sorry to be so naive.0 -
why dont you try Inspiron 530 and upgrade it to Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2140 Processor (1.6GHz,800MHz,1MB cache) which will sum upto £329.00££££££
Cheers

Certainly very easy to check memory
http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.aspx?cpe=CHAWKuk
this site scans your computer and tells you what you've got, and what you need.
You make a note of this and then check www.ebuyer.com for a better price! (there are other good memory suppliers)
Fitting memory is about as difficult as changing the battery in a toy. All you need is a screwdriver and sensible precautions to touch a radiator or tap before handling the memory. (on a laptop there is a little trap door into the memory compartment)0
