Old Paper National Insurance Card

Is it worth keeping this for anything today, as I believe it can't be used as any proof in current usage and requirements? Apart from a keepsake, it serves no purpose, especially if the address is also not relevant.
I think it was issued at my senior school just before leaving.

I used to have one but I have no idea what happened to it, probably got left behind or lost in a house move years ago. They don't issue them anymore so maybe a local heritage centre or a museum may be interested in it as a piece of social history? It's probably in the same category as a Ration Book.PS. I used to live next to a Heritage Centre (other side to the pub) and one of the hit display items with school kids was the 'manual printer' that they could have a go with - an Olivetti portable typwriter from the 1970's, most of them had never seen a typewriter before let alone had a go on one.
Cries of "Where's the backspace ?" followed by "What's Tippex ?"1 -
Ha ha, Tipex is still relevant. Wasn't it one of Phillip Schofield's relatives that came up with the idea?
I can remember seeing the drum mass printing hand-rolling machines; they would be extinct today.
I remember when they issued the NI cards we were told to keep them safe and don't show anyone! In the playground everyone was saying, What number did you get? and sharing with everyone. I only just looked up the plastic cards, obsolete since 2010, apparently.0 -
Wow, I never realised that. I have my original pink "obsolete" plastic one... and my orignal paper counterpart to my driving licence too.TimeLord1 said:I only just looked up the plastic cards, obsolete since 2010, apparently.

Yes, I don't believe anything is done nationwide to make people aware. I still have my pink paper driver's license. I think it was green and replaced with pink. I changed the driver's license last year online; it was done and in the mail within a week. Now it's updated every ten years if I make it. 😄0

Yes, I updated mine just a couple of months ago. It is one of those surprising situations which have been made so much easier these days, and remarkably inexpensive I thought too. 👍TimeLord1 said:Yes, I don't believe anything is done nationwide to make people aware. I still have my NINO card! My current driving licence is still paper as I moved just before the change in March 2000, I refuse to start paying for a photo licence every ten years until I am required to."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Agreed, the process I assumed would take weeks longer by snail mail, so I believe online the process was completed in ten minutes.vacheron said:

I think my main issue was banks refusing old driver's licenses as a form of ID. This annoyed me regularly, and they had to go off and do phone checks. On renewal to card via online. I kept the paper one so still relevant to use.sammyjammy said:I still have my NINO card!
