For a German car, around ten years old, FSH, belt changed?
How high would you accept?

Time to search and see if that exact engine and vehicle have any known issues and at what mileage they may have been occurring.1

Back in the day the accepted annual mileage would be 12k I suspect it is quite a bit less these days but 10k would strike me as being reasonable. So that gives a figure of 100k miles. Next question is petrol or diesel? If too low in a diesel then you you may have other worries (such as DPF).
Condition of the car is crucial and a full service history is a big plus.
So. how many miles does it have?1 -

This is basically a how long is a bit of string question. You can maintain a vehicle well and it will reach high mileage with few issues. On the other hand you can abuse and wreck a vehicle with low mileage. There is no standard answer. You need to look at the car's history and general condition and make a judgement call for yourself. If in any doubt, have it inspected.1

Nah. It was a general question ❓0 -
Its impossible to say, I bought a Volvo C30 and on the test drive thought the clutch was on its way out, 4 years later it was still on the same clutch (and felt the same) when I gave it to my daughter, after 6 weeks it was dead so I paid for it to be replaced.

Hows the rest of the car and service history? A well maintained 200k mile 10 year old car may be a better buy that a badly maintained 10k car of the same age.
