@heatherw_01 - yes am aware of that - hence the title ‘Banca March charging €5.50 for Chase cash withdrawal. Far as I’m aware Banca March was the last atm that was fee free for chase cards over here.

I was going by your post rather than title as your post was worded blaming Chase, hence my reply.

Just tried to withdraw cash on my Chase debit card at Banca March in Lanzarote and instead of being fee free like it was when we came last October,it advised a €5.50 fee per withdrawal

so we went to a Santander and
withdrew fee free from there on a Santander debit card instead.  Have checked just now on app and we got €100 for £85 which is pretty much spot on for todays rate.

one less reason to use Chase - I don’t use them anymore anyway in Uk and now won’t bother overseas as have a Barclay rewards card.

You have misconstrued my words.  One of my last reasons to use Chase was so I could withdraw cash fee free in Lanzarote and now I can’t. It doesn’t really matter where the ‘blame’ lies - stating facts.

"These days I use so little cash abroad I don't consider it worth maintaining a bank account for single country ATM withdrawals so wouldn't bother with Santander just for Spain or Chase just for US."
A Santander UK Everyday Current Account is worth considering for regular visitors to Spain even if just to access some currency at their branch located ATMs - and there are 7 other countries where Santander offers fee free currency withdrawals at their owned ATMs.
It has no strings attached conditions such as a minimum monthly pay in amount or Direct Debit requirements - and is also a decent current account for routine day to day banking,

I’ve searched for Unicaja in Lanzarote but not had much luck it just refers me to mainland Spain.  Although due to the power outages on the mainland my internet has been very hit or miss
    Hope this might help ?

Thanks for the link - there doesn’t seem to be a unicaja atm on lamzarote from what I can see

My Spanish is very basic however their website APPEARS (to me at least) to indicate that they have an  arrangement with some other banks to honour their fee free debit card in the Canaries.
That is academic of course as it refers to their own current account which will not be available to a non resident Brit.
Santander now remains the best deal for UK visitors, although only at their branch based ATMs. Fortunately most of the popular holiday resorts will have a Banco Santander oficina - although maybe requiring a fair walk to the location ?
There is a branch location facility on their website.
One word of caution - ignore the standalone ATM (cajeros) locations, they are almost certainly operated by a network branded Euro Automatic Cash which only offers fee free cash to Spanish BS customers under an agreement.

We have a Santander bank within a short pleasant stroll of our accommodation so have been using that with our debit card to withdraw cash fee free and at a decent rate. Don’t like to carry a lot of cash so withdraw smaller amounts daily

I'm unlikely to be back in Tenerife anytime soon, and thankfully have a Santander account if I do go - but the last time I went Deutsche Bank was also fee-free. Have they joined the rest of them in charging?

Just found a separate thread advising deutsche bank charges around €4 per atm transaction - but I haven’t used them personally

I'm going to keep my eyes open for the next time Santander offer a switching deal. I have a couple of sacrificial accounts I'd be happy to switch if there was a bonus for doing so.
