painting fence

hi all
i'm planning to repaint the fence this week, last time it was done was about 5 years ago so it needs doing now
last time i done it i got the pressure hose out allowed the fence to dry a day or 2 and resprayed it and looked perfect
when i done it the last time i pressure hosed it going down the fence but i'm reading online the correct way is bottom to top, any reason for that

I would always go top to bottom
  • It doesn't really matter. If you were painting a car then there are certain rules to follow, but pressure washing a fence is not an excat science.  Lots of websites are created by AI and/or by people who are just posting rubbish in the hope that you'll click on their page and click on the adverts to make them a few pence.

Most important, it has to be thoroughly dry (not just dry-ish to the touch), and free of any dirt, dust, algae etc for best results.  Also don't do what we did and buy cheap "garden fence paint" from a discount store.  It was a named brand so we thought it would be good (even though it was only £18 for 5 litres), but it's watery rubbish.  Shell out for some proper stuff if you intend living there and keeping the fence for another 5 years

I can't see the logic of cleaning bottom to top, all the dirt from the top will run down over what you have just cleaned.  Same as washing a car top to bottom.
