Returning a faulty pick up only item.

Bought a tent recently 'pick up only' and have just tested it and it leaks like a sieve.I have requested a refund from seller but what is the usual protocol for return? Do you get a proof of return number like you do on pick up? Can't imagine a seller wants a faulty product back so what if they choose not to be in on return time ? how does it all work
Thanks

Did the seller agree to a refund or simply say the tent was sold as seen?  If you return something to someone then it's best to get a signature on delivery.  No seller wants to accept the return of a faulty item but the courier usually manages to get proof of the delivery

Sellers on eBay don’t have to agree to a return if item is SNAD.

OP If you haven’t already opened an SNAD claim then do that first, then I’d be tempted to phone eBay and ask about proof required for return.

Does SNAD apply to collection-only items?

You need to open a SNAD claim as soolin says,eBay will supply a return label and charge it to the seller,it's usually only for a 2kg parcel so you will need to contact CS if this is the case and ask for a label that is sufficient for the weight of the tent.Seller should refund within 3 days of receipt

If the seller doesn't want the tent back they can refund without return through the case.

Thanks everyone , seller has agreed to a refund but wants me to take it back. Have contacted Ebay via virtual assistant and they stated the seller should provide postage label so that's what i've asked for .Will see what comes of that

It seems that there is no other route to getting proof of return
