Looked up this subject and it seems that most posts are ancient. Has anyone got some recent experience of using one? I’ve got a quote on My Home Move for Wilson’s which is £2200 cheaper than my high street solicitor quote.

Your high street quote must be extortionate then? We paid around £2,300 in total at our local conveyancer for sale and purchase (excluding SDLT).
Our conveyancers weren't great but the fact that they were in an office about 200 yards from where we lived made things so much easier. We popped in a few times to sign documents, drop off docs, or to collect forms etc. from them. Would have been a huge hassle if we'd had to use snail mail. A lot do use apps of course, but I find them a bit hit and miss. Have you go quotes from a few local providers?1 -

Are you sure you're comparing apples with apples? Many conveyancers have a low "headline" fee and then a big list of unavoidable surcharges depending on the details of the transaction.2
