HSBC / First Direct login problems? App seems fine but not browser?

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced login issues with a desktop browser?

I've updated the apps for both on my mobile (which admittedly is quite old, but the app works fine, else app wouldn't update or I wouldn't be able to unlock my security code).

I can log into my accounts via the apps, but unable to seemingly generate logon codes using the app / device to view my accounts on a desktop browser (Firefox).

Is this a known issue?

I don’t know if it’s connected, I tried to update the app and it’s just got stuck.  So I cannot generate a login code as the old app is removed but the new update won’t install. iPhone.

Edit: i restarted the phone it’s all working now.

    Thanks for your replies.

I'll try another browser when I next need to log on.

Well, trying an alternative browser doesn't work either, so not an issue with Firefox.

It might be something to do with an older phone (Android version), but if that was the case, surely I wouldn't be able to use the app at all to login to my accounts?

Are you using a VPN? Browser extensions to block things? Are you using the browser on a phone or a PC/Mac?

No, not using any VPN, extensions or ad blocker.

Strange it seems to only be happening to me?

As I've mentioned, I am on an older phone, but if the app doesn't work for security code generation, it wouldn't be able to log me in using the app.

It's a funny cobbled together thing, yer first direct app. It's quite possible that the app is using different security protocols to the website and the code generator bit might be thought of as an add-on and might be needing a later OS. I recon you could be right about your aged phone (what is it BTW?), but the only way to be sure is to install and register on a newer handset.

Any chance you could borrow one for a test? AFAIK there's no rule that says you can't have more than one instance of the FD app registered to an individual.

I understand you can have the FD app on upto 3 devices. Also it can be installed on a tablet and not just a phone. So if you have a newer tablet (i.e. one that still gets security updates) you could try that.
Until the beginning of last month I had an iPhone 8 on which the FD app worked fine. On buying one of the 16's, copying the app was simple enough using the QR code generator. So for a short while I had the FD app on 2 phones till I deleted the app on the older phone.
The app on the new phone is slightly different in one respect in that it requires a few more taps to transfer money to somebody. Yet the app on the old phone worked fine to transfer money.
