Contents Insurance and Retro/Vintage Computer Equipment

Options
As the title suggests, as my collection of Vintage/Retro computer equipment grows I should see whether I am insured should the worst happen.

I have a collection of 1980/1990 consoles/computers, with associated games, literature, peripherals etc.

Nothing, so far in my collection has any huge individual value, so until now I have just included it in my general overall cover.  (my individual single item limit on my policy is currently £1500, sadly I do not own anything that approaches that limit).

Should I declare the collection as a "single" item as it were and put a value for everything and submit a inventory?  Clearly I cannot claim anything for damage or new for old so not sure where this collection falls?

Any advice gratefully received.

Does the value of any of the items increase because you have other items?

Its not my sphere of interest but I would guess that the value of say a g3 iMac would be more with the matching original keyboard and mouse than the same collection than if the keyboard and mouse were different colours or the sum of their parts.

Does a set of games become more valuable if sold with a working console for them or is there more value in selling the games individually?

Ultimately ask your insurer for their definitions but suspect its more likely a consideration if the collection is worth more than the sum of their parts and so you may have multiple collections in your collection as I doubt have the G3 iMac and the SNES from the same year would do anything for each other if bundled.

Thanks, yes, good ideas to check.  Generally related items seem to sell for more if sold individually, most buyers expect volume or bundle discount.  Also a lot of buyers like to pick and choose to complete collections they are already compiling.

I think I'll create a full inventory and see what sort of value I am looking at, maybe then just adjust my overall contents value if necessary.

    Cheers
