Laminate flooring in a flat

Hi all

I just need some advice, I am currently moving into a flat and the carpets have been down since the building was built in 2006. I have removed the carpets and have decided to get laminate flooring in the hallway and living space/kitchen area.

I am conscious laminate may cause noise issues for the flat below. I have contacted my management company and they have said other than a noise/nuisance clause there is nothing specific about what kind of floor I am allowed.

I am looking at getting an 8mm laminate with 3mm underlay. I have specifically being looking at this underlay  "TimberTech Neo 3mm Crumb Rubber" as it offers the best noise reduction I can find, even though it is more expensive.

Do you think this would suffice? ChatGPT seems to think so but I was hoping someone who might have experience living in a flat or with an upstairs neighbor with laminate.

Few additional points to note:-

- I am a single male so it's not like there will be lots of foot traffic (pets/kids etc)
- The flooring between flats are concrete and the apartments were purpose built rather than converted
- The neighbors downstairs have the flat up for sale, so it isn't like I can ask there opinion/permission as they are not likely to be there soon.

Any advice or opinions would be welcome.

If it’s a purpose built flat then I don’t think it’s something you need to worry about too much, they’re designed to insulate noise.

My flat is purpose built, was built in 2006. When I moved in 10 years ago I replaced the carpet with laminate with no issues. I can’t tell you what the spec is of my laminate unfortunately, i didn’t pay much attention when I got it done.
