PCN from private company

Good morning,
I have recently received a PCN from a private company GX-S for a car park in Shoreham.(Quayside House Car Park) Basically I went into the car park, sat in my van and ate lunch. Never left the vehicle. I didn't notice the cameras when I entered. I basically ate my lunch then left. I figured if a warden came in I would just move. Now I've gotten a PCN from this company, which I appealed. They rejected it(which I never got the email as it went to junk), and now they are saying they want £170 for the fine, and that they are going to send it to a debt collector. I refuse to pay this as its about 55 times what the fee would have been. It's ridiculous. I've read some other threads that say just ignore it all? Is this still the recommended approach? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can and should ignore powerless debt collectors letters asking for £170

You definitely should not ignore a Letter of Claim giving 30 days notice,  or an N1SDT court claim pack from the CNBC in Northampton using MCOL

You definitely should not be stopping for a period of time on private or council car parks without checking the signage and complying with it ( not getting out is irrelevant,  the vehicle took up the space or bay and the driver failed to comply with the contract on the signs  ) the driver did not obtain permission to park there in order to eat lunch  !

Wardens are few and far between these days,  whereas cameras are everywhere,  watching,  waiting, 24/7/365

They may well pass the case to a solicitor firm , who would issue the LoC , issue the subsequent court claim

So in future,  see and avoid , prevention is much easier than cure

That's not what happens on private land.

Why didn't you just park on-street in Wharf Road or along by the lagoon on the public highway where you can't be filmed? (I'm a West Sussex lady so I know this area).

Never seek out private car parks.

Most have an ANPR trap. I hoped people had sussed by now to stay on street when pulling over. Literally avoid car parks. You don't need one to sit & eat.

We assume you've searched & read all the GXS Shoreham Port threads and realised there's no appeal but nothing happens?

Obviously tell them if you move house as you must open & check each letter, in case they try a small claim but as things stand, GXS aren't litigious.

Please show the PCN. Both sides. Was this ANPR or CCTV (you can tell from the pics).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you both for replying. believe it was ANPR. I am looking for the original letter, but it's been moved. The most recent letter is above. I admit, it was dumb on my part, should've known better.
As for LoC or N1SDT, I assume these are pre-court documents. What do I need to worry about if these arrive?
Again, the help is much appreciated.

Please study the newbies sticky thread in announcements near the top of the forum,  especially the 5th and 2nd posts

LoC is Letter of Claim,  an LBC , pre court but part of the court claim process, after the powerless debt collectors letters

N1SDT is part of the court claim pack that is issued by the CNBC in Northampton,  which is part of the MCOL justice system,  which is the start of the court claim process

But I already said they aren't litigious.

    Ignore GXS.

You will get DR Plus letters.

DO NOT SHOW THOSE TO US.

You showed us your full name and all PCN refs and your car reg; here's a redacted pic of the reminder where they reckon they can 'gild the lily' by adding £70 for no reason whatsoever & made you even more unlikely to pay! What a scam:

And from experience from helping friends to ignore this trash, I know that even if you log in to pay them now, because over a week has passed since the date of that letter, you'll get this 'get lost' message (and no way to review any evidence photos) because their excuse is: the file has gone to joke debt crawlers DR Plus:

"Unfortunately, you are unable to pay this charge at this time, this is due to one of the following restricted statuses: Paid, Cancelled, Voided or With Debt Collectors."
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • Hello, I'm back in regards to my parking fine. I have received a "letter before claim" from trace debt recovery.  I have had a look through the sticky thread and others and I am a bit lost as to how to proceed. Is there a thread that has a pro forma letter I can send to fight this? Any more help would be greatly appreciated.  You all have been so helpful in the past and I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Hello, I'm back in regards to my parking fine.
Please read the letters again I will give £100 to charity if you can find the word "fine" printed on it!
  • Thanks for getting back Ralph-y.  I read the letter wrong.  The LBC is from Moorside Legal. but there is no term of time on the letter. It just says that i need to pay, and that acting now would prevent additional charges. Then it says, should we receive further instructions from their client the extra charges will be added.  Should I send them back one of the letters on the newbie thread? thank you.

Seems like it is one of their recently introduced letters with no time scale on it - treat it as debt collector rubbish.
