JSA application start date and last day at work (7 days)

Hi,

I have been informed that my last day at work will be on May 4th so I am planning on claiming JSA as I won't have any income once my contract ends.

I've read that it can take about a week after applying for the JSA to start, so my question is - considering that I already know my last day at work, can I start applying now so I don't loose the 7 days?

I've started to apply but there are questions like: ''are you currently employed?'' and ''have you ended work in the past 6 months'' so I am not sure if the application would be accepted if the start date don't match with the info I enter. There are no options to select a date in the future too.

Thanks

New Style JSA can only be claimed a day after your employment contract ends, if you had been working for 16 hours or more per week.

And yes JSA has a waiting period of 7 days, so there will be 7 days when you don't receive benefit rate. But you will get NI credit towards future state pension from start date of claim.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
