Switching from Virgin Media, Sky delays installation of FTTP

I am leaving Virgin Media cable internet to get Sky FTTP using the broadband switching service.
Sky originally gave a date of 7th May and Virgin Media calculated the last bill including cancellation fee to that date.
Now Sky has informed me that it will now be 10th June for installation.
Will Virgin just keep the internet and phone switched on until then and bill me for the extra days?

It's openreach that is the delay.
Is your Virgin cable? If so then that should end on the date you have given them.Life in the slow lane0 -
Did you use the One Touch Switch service?
If so, the gaining provider should advise the losing provider of any delays and then the actual date that the new service goes live so you are not prematurely disconnected and left without any service.
That's the theory!0 -

I think some properties use City Fibre instead of Openreach for sky broadband so it could be that they need to come and install this from scratch.0

While it may appear that Virgin are giving you free broadband, and even sending you a credit, they will just send you a big bill (e.g. 3 months worth) at the end!0

I contacted them and basically they said tough luck you're leaving we can do nothing unless you cancel leaving.0 -
If you are out of contract with VM , and are leaving for Sky (but that’s not getting installed as fast as you would like ) it’s understandable that VM are not going to offer discounts or anything else , TBH , this would be the same if you were going to stay with VM but on an out of contract basis while you assessed your options ….trying to ‘time’ leaving one provider for another to pay the least amount to the losing provider , especially if the new service involves a different network operator that needs to be installed , is likely to be less than seamless , personally I’d err on the side of caution, and get the new service in before giving the old provider the notice to quit that way you guarantee to maintain service …or put another way , would you prefer to have had no service for the last week , with another 4 weeks waiting without any landline broadband service to look forward to , or this paying VM for an extra month on an out of contract price ?.
As far as the delay , as someone already stated , it will be Openreach that need to do some work , this may be considerable, so a delay was probably inevitable , but OR won’t start this construction unless an order comes in0 -
Openreach today dug up the pavement and my lawn and installed the fibre
And another 4 OR-> signs have appeared on my street.
Virgin Media have lost, or are losing, at least 9 customers in my street so far out of 25 homes.0 -
The good news is the bill is for a month in advance. So if your now connected up, you should get alot of that back.
VM reissued the bill within 3 days of me being connected0
