subletting a room whilst on UC

Hello,

I am a single mum with two boys. I receive UC and the housing element of it. My boys are older and sometimes spend time with their father. I was thinking of letting their room out to students whilst their at not at home to make a little extra money. I read that you can make up to £7500 a year renting a room and that is tax free. Also savings under £6000 do not affect your UC claim? Will I be able to do this without breaking the law? I am desperate to be in a positions where I am not counting the pennies to reach to the end of the month.

MAny thanks

This link confirms that you can do this without it affecting your Univerrsal Credit claim (unless you don't spend the income and end up with more than £6000 of savings): Getting a lodger - Citizens Advice

It also offers a lot of other useful advice about taking in a lodger.
