When had the debt been sold to Cabot? Were you aware of that?
I've been paying wescot for the last 6 years then the beginning of this year they wrote to me saying it was sold to Cabot but wescot were still dealing with the payments and the account.

You replied on your other thread just a few minutes before you started this one.

Santander took back debt possibly? — MoneySavingExpert Forum

That brought it back up to the top.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

So that's pretty recent. My guess is that either Cabot or Santader realised that some or all of the debts in the book that was sold should not have been included, so Santader bought them back. This is uncommon but It doesnt normally help you much to try to speculate why.

I have merged both your threads here for your convenience.

I suspect, and its only a suspicion, that Santander have made a commercial decision and will not pursue the balance on this account, due to it been subject to your husbands insolvency.

See what happens but that is my theory.
