Santander Bought back debt

I posted a while ago but have updates today so need advice please on the new stuff and questions!

Back story
Joint overdraft
Husband in an IVA ( them paying his contribution)

Me paying wescot (Cabot bought but wescot managed)

6 years later IVA paid off, I'm still paying the remaining balance.

Had a letter from Cabot this morning confirming Santander have bought the account back, not heard anything from Santander yet.

There was a default against me but this has now dropped off my file with it being 6 years

Can they put another default on, report this on my file again?
Why have they suddenly bought it back after 6 years and what can they do?

Thanks for reading!

    Hi
Before I ring them could anyone give me any idea on what to expect

I've posted before but now there's been a new development

    Story so far.....

    Joint overdraft with husband
    Husband went into an IVA

Husband paid his part through them
I paid my contribution through wescott

    I got a default

6 years later .... Husband has completed the IVA , My default has dropped off and I've continued to pay wescot my monthly payment

    Today I've received this

Notification in respect of recent payment
We have recently received a payment from you of £4.00 in respect of the above account. However, we are no
longer appointed to manage this account and therefore the payment has been forwarded onto Santander UK
    Plc.
What do you need to do now?
You should stop making any further payments to Wescot in respect of this account and contact Santander UK
Plc to confirm arrangements for the repayment of any remaining outstanding balance. Any further monies that
we will receive will be forwarded on to Santander UK Plc.

Any ideas on why this has happened after 6 years, surely they can't default on it again and why do I need to pay them after wescot for so long

    Thanks for ready the essay!

Just ignore this  until and if you receive something in writing from Santander, don't phone them it's a waste of time and money.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

This might get lost at Santander, in which case keeping silent for 6 years will result in it becoming statute barred and unenforceable.

They might send you details of another company to whom you pay. If they do, it might be worth asking them to write off?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Wescott and Moorcroft are collection companies, basically they work for other clients collecting bad debts.

Occasionally they may audit there debt portfolio, and any account that only receives a small payment, or no payment at all, will sometimes be automatically returned to the client, who will then decide what to do.

So this morning I've received a letter from Cabot saying Santander have bought back the account.
I've still not heard anything from Santander themselves yet, can they put this back on my credit file, it went to default then as it's been 6 years it's no longer on there.

I wasn't sure if the new update of receiving a letter from Cabot today would get seen and any advice given in the original thread with it being a while back

When had the debt been sold to Cabot? Were you aware of that?
