Cheap calls to USA

I have been using Doubledial to make free calls to the USA (I actually call from my mobile, but am posting on this forum as it isn't a mobile issue). This has worked fine until today. But when I tried today I got told to use a different number to start the call. And that's an 0843 number so has a large charge.
So are there good services for cheap calls to USA? I get a certain number of international minutes free on my mobile plan, but I'm not sure if those would be enough.

I would really like to use faceTime to call my friend, but she is so technically challenged that I haven't been able to get her to use it, either for calls in or calls out. I actually had to get myself a US Skype number (which was not cheap) so that she could call me.

I would recommend an app called Rebtel which offers cheap international calls. It allows you to make unlimited free calls to the USA.
