EV tariff for hot tub (no ev)

I only have a smart meter - is it possible to have an economy 7 tariff even if never had it before ?masonic said:
Just to add I have switched between economy 7 and single rate a couple of times now. The change takes a few days to register in the national database, but Octopus will apply an E7 tariff immediately if you want. I'm using the current 12 month E7 fix as an alternative to Agile, given the reduced standing charge. The off-peak times for Go wouldn't suit me (besides me not being eligible).barker77 said:

Yes, as per my earlier reply.barker77 said:

The hot tub already has an inflatable lid similar to your link fitted into the top cover. And then on top of that I have the thick thermal cover. I wonder if another inflatable disk would make much difference? I guess if I could find one cheap enough then it might be worth trying.Get yourself something like this to place on top of the water under the cover. Also really helps retain the heat.Ignore the price, I paid £28 a few years ago for this, so worth having a look around for something similar and cheaper.
I had a cleverspa which didn't have an inflateable lid. However when I moved across to lasyspa I kept it and still use it. Extra layer of insulation can't help!1 -
Whilst I don't endorse the idea of using an EV tariff for a hot tub, the energy needed to "recharge" an EV depends entirely on how far you have driven it since the last charge. Provided the consumption power is 2.3 kW to 7 kW I don't think there is any way of telling whether that is being used to charge an EV or for some other purpose. We are 4 days into May and so far this month I have used 11.2 kWh charging my EV (because it has only been out on a few short trips).subjecttocontract said:Hot tubs use significantly less energy than would be needed to recharge an EV. It would be obvious by looking at the consumption that the customer is not charging an EV.
