Is it a Ford?  Wet belt failure clogging up oil ways is a big problem.

NO. The OP has already confirmed the make, see page 2.

Just to confirm.... Peugeot also have wet belts, not exclusively a Ford problem.

Is it the 1.2 puretech engine, if so it does sound like a wet belt issue that engine is almost as bad as the 1.0 eco boom in fords

If this is a 1.2 Puretech engine and neither the AA or a so called expert mechanic is aware of potential oil starvation due to wet belt oil degradation how are they still in a job?

The warning light was for oil degradation, the garage told me it was a common for this light to show and not a serious matter. As soon as the light showed I took the car to the garage, that's what Peugeot tells you to do. The car was due a service in 550 miles at that time

A flashing oil warning light, or an alert indicating engine oil degradation, usually means it's time to change the engine oil.
So if it was that warning light, it would have been cleared or the oil changed?

    Incorrect.

Please see my earlier post as to what that warning light means on a Peugeot.

There's 2 big things wrong (or that need checking) now:

    - "No oil in engine" reported by garage
    - timing jumped a tooth, or worse

Reading all the above, its unclear if there's no oil, or whether its lost oil pressure, or its just that a light for oil quality/service due came on, which was turned off.

Timing - this could have resulted in nothing more than lumpy running, but it could also have damaged valves and pistons. Does it crank no start? Or no crank?
