in Credit cards
i actually dont use my credit cards but i have had a vanquis one for a few years, not used in over a year. Apparently i'm being offered a 5% cashback deal (capped at £20 max cashback) Not going to use it just for the sake of it but my vehicletax is due next week, at £350. Is this transaction elligeible for this offer? i know a lot of things are excluded including insurance, financial products etc.

I don't know what you've been offered. But does it matter? If you put the vehicle tax on your credit card and don't get the cashback, it has still only cost you £350 - the same as if you paid on debit card.If you don't use credit cards, why do you have them? Having unused credit cards adversely affects the amount you'd be able to borrow on loans/mortgages.1

Yes, i agree, nothing to lose by using it anyway. I struggled with credit card debt for years, finally paid it all off five years ago and vowed not to get into trouble again. I do have a couple of cards which i only use for flights and things where the consumer protection might be useful. My credit score, not that it matters is very high with all the credit score companies. But i dont intend to take on debt, my mortgage is paid off, i dont have car loans etc. Im aware if i dont use my cards they may revoke them but im not that bothered.0

I generally try to avoid spending more than the minimum on anything. As a result I'm not spending more than I earn...so I can put all my spending on credit card and I pay in full by direct debit each month.Doing this means that I earn Avios on the vast majority of my spending. It also means that my cash sits around in my bank account for a few extra weeks, earning me interest, before it is taken to repay the credit card.It doesn't sound like there's much of an issue if you keep cards you don't often use. My personal preference is to keep things very simple. I have one current account, one credit card and one account for investments.0

Is Vanquis willing to treat a tax payment as a purchase?
