travel insurance claim denied (avanti)

Options
Advice please, (comprehensive with zero excess avanti travel insurance)
A brief outline - ticket bought (viagogo) for india v england cricket match (pune) 31 january, return flight (from goa) and hotel booked on same day. In the days prior to event assurances were given by viagogo that a ticket would be forthcoming, travelled up to pune on 30 jan and hotel paid for on same day (3 days and 2 nights in pune). Spent hours on viagogo chat bot trying to get ticket on the morning of event, on the morning of event was informed that there was no ticket and there was alternative ticket which had to be bought. Flew back to goa on 1st February without seeing game. Submitted a claim for out of pocket expenses - flight, hotel, taxis to and from airports in goa and pune, claim was denied under the sections of cancellations and cutting short of trip. As the claim was neither cancelled nor cut short. Were avanti right to deny claim.
TIA

Depends on the T&C's but there was nothing stopping you seeing out the rest of your stay in Pune and travelling back on your intended flight?

Without seeing the T&C’s of the policy no one will know but it’s unlikely you’re insured against consequential losses for an unconnected event. Unless your policy says different then Avanti had no link to the match ticket so can’t be responsible for the rest of the trip that you still took.

Sorry, struggling to follow what's actually happened?

Sounds like the flight and the hotel worked but you didnt actually book your ticket to the event? So you are hoping to reclaim the cost of the flight/hotel because the purpose of your trip failed?

If thats the case you'd not have a valid claim, insurance covers your ability to get there/back etc not being able to fulfil your purpose. In particular they wouldnt cover anything where you travelled before even securing a ticket to the event.

You took the trip to Pune.  Your trip was not cancelled due to you getting injured/ill etc.
Likewise your trip was not cut short for an insured reason.  You didn't have to get an urgent flight home because of an emergency.
You are disappointed that you didn't get tickets to the cricket match.  I understand your disappointment but this is not related to your travel insurance.

More specifically, you didn't insure your ability to get tickets with Avanti. It was never a risk they were covering you for.

did you pay for the ticket that you didn't get?  if so claim that money back from the seller and if they don't help go to your credit card.
