Mortgage affordability checks - commuting costs

I wondered if anyone had any experience of the following please. During mortgage affordability checks, what if current commuting costs are significantly higher than what they would be in the new home? Was it enough to explain this to your broker please?

This is one of those things that is sort of lender dependent. Within reason, it should be fine. I remember having a client who lived in NI and working in England... We went to a lender (normal rates) who I knew would not even question it. As it happened he flew over on a sunday, stayed with his mum and and then flew back on Thursday and worked from home Friday - but it was easier to just not get into the discussion.
