When to pay what; solicitors, surveys, movers…

Hello just wondering at what stage in the house buying process do we pay for certain things. We’re in wales. Selling our home and moving to new one.
We pay initial solicitors fees but then at what stage would we pay remaining solicitors, surveys, movers etc

Remaining solicitors invoice will be paid before completion.

You pay for the survey at the time that it is done, or maybe even a  few days in advance.

In my experience it depends on whether they OP is using all the equity from the sale for the onward purchase or not - if there is money to be returned to the OP from the sale then the solicitor may well simply deduct both their and the estate agents selling fees from the sale completion amount and then return the balance to the OP

More accurate to say the solicitors won't complete without knowing their costs are covered somehow.

We have just bought and moved. The solicitors we paid when we sent over our deposit a few days prior to exchange.  The surveyor we paid before she attended. She stipulated payment was required 48 hours before the date she was booked to attend.  The movers sent an invoice after the moving day and invoice stated a payment date (think it was 7 days). But movers we have used before have insisted on payment before moving day.  So depends on the movers you use.  Good luck.
  • It can all vary, this time I had to pay anti laundering check to the EA first, then the upfront fee for the searches to be ordered, next will be the survey next week.
