CCTV at new property

The house we bought has a cctv camera at front door not sure if it’s a dvd recording one or via phone but worried about possible privacy issues does the owner have to transfer ownership or would I have to pay to deactivate it?

    The house we bought...

Do you mean "a house you've had an offer accepted on", or do you mean a house you've completed on and moved into?

Assuming it's a house you've had an offer accepted on, ask the sellers what their plans are for the cctv camera.
    • Will it be included in the house sale?
    • Or will they remove it and take it with them?

If it's included with the house sale, and you want to continue using it, you'll probably have to go through the process of setting up an account with a service provider, linking it to your new wifi etc.

If it's included with the house sale, and you don't want to continue using it, you could probably just unscrew the camera from the wall and throw it in the bin.

The first thing to do will be to find out the make and model of the camera.  Most cheap ones nowadays connect via WiFi so the odds are that it won't currently be functioning fully (although it might have an SD card in it which is recording).

If it is a WiFi one then it should just take a quick Google to get hold of a manual for it so you can factory reset it, connect it to your WiFi and change any passwords etc for it.

Perhaps ask the previous owners the setup of it?
