How do I know the caller from Sky is genuine?

I just had a call from 08007613372 claiming to be from Sky wanting to discuss my current 18 month contract which is ending.
He knew my first name and that my 18 month contract was coming to an end and wanted to confirm my surname and postcode.
I asked him what I had recently changed on my plan( I have added broadband) and he kept saying he couldn't tell me until I answered his questions and when I kept asking what changed he kept repeating he couldn't tell me until I answered his questions.
So an impasse and I hung up.
Was it a genuine call from Sky?

Google the number. It does show as from Sky.
However, I'm with you on calls where people start with asking you security questions. If I'm not particularly interested in them, I ask them to answer my security questions first and it goes nowhere!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. It's hard to know sometimes. I get calls where the caller knows nothing about me and that's a sign it's a scam. Sometimes they know my name and address and so I ask them where they got that information from and a lot of times they will hang up because they know their scam isn't going to go anywhere.
When I think it might be legit but am being coaxed through security I tend to say I don't have time and what number can I call them back on? If they give me a number I'll ask if I can google that to confirm it's legit. Someone who is legit will be quite happy to tell you where to find the number.
With yours - why would he know your first name but not your last? Aren't they both on your account?? That would say to me scam.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Yes, it's definitely a Sky number (so long as it wasn't spoofed)

Go to the Sky website, call the number there and ask them.(I've received calls at various times where they've said they need to "take me through security" and my response has been "Well, you called me!".)0

I never discuss business over the phone unless I initiate the call1

Back in the day before my student loans were written off, I had a phone call purporting to be from SLC. The caller introduced himself and said he was going to just 'run me through some security questions'. As he'd called me I refused to answer them, and he responded by saying that he was unable to discuss the matter he'd rung about. I told him that was fine, and that if he was who he said he was he'd know my address and could write to me.A week later I got an unrepeatable offer of paying my loans off early for the unbelievably reasonable sum of £XXX, which obviously I declined. So yeah, it probably was genuine. Full marks for being cautious though!0

You don't if you're suspicious hang up and call the company concerned on the number that you have for them and not recall0
