Bit confused as to what constitutes good energy tariffs. Are mine bad?

Hello,

I'm with Octopus Energy on a flexible tariff and have been for years. These are my tariffs for electricity and gas:

Electricity - 27.22p/kWh - 50.31p/day
Gas
7.25p/kWh  - 37.07p/day

Is this bad? My bill from March to last week was £200 for both (not each). That seems high but maybe it isn't? I guess I just want to work out whether it is my individual usage that is high or if I am just on a bad tariff.

I barely use the gas. Electricity I use a bit more but really not that much. Is there a chance that these energy sources could be 'used' by neighbours in some way without me knowing? Can I call someone in from an energy company to check?

Octopus used to automatically switch you over to a better tariff but things seemed to have changed over the past couple of years, so now I am having to be a little more proactive. I would just like some perspective, really.

Thanks,

If you mean by good = cheapest. Then look at comparison sites

Octopus's Flexible tariff is pegged to the Ofgem cap, like pretty much every other energy supplier's variable tariff is. It's neither good nor bad, it's just what it is.
As stated above, if you want to know if an alternative tariff would cost you less then your best bet is to plug your numbers into one of the many energy tariff comparison sites.

Was your bill based on Actual meter readings or on Estimated ones? Do you have smart meters? How much energy does your bill say you've used for the period?

It's unlikely that anyone else is using your energy. Are you in a flat, a terrace, a semi or a detached house? Do the meter serial numbers on your bill match the serial numbers on the meters?

If you have a smart meter you can use octopriceapp.com to compare different Octopus time-of-use tariffs for electricity, also Octopus Compare app (free gives you a rolling month's comparison, 7-day trial for premium gives you a year's data).  Your other options might be fixes with other suppliers, but I don't know if there are any significantly cheaper than the standard.

    For my region the cap is around £1866, Eon's 14m is at £1654, 11% cheaper so 5.95p / 32.76p and 23.3p / 60.8p v 6.92p / 32.76p and 27p / 60.9p at SVR. (and I am currently paying at cap rate of £1573, 5.5p / 31.76p and 22.16p / 62p, that's gonna smart when it ends :'( )
