Connector to a WiFi card.

Hi.
Fixing a HP laptop. Once of the issues was a broken connector going to the Intel 3168NGW WiFi card.
I bought this, having been assured it was correct:

I cut the cable in half, and soldered one end to the old cable. The actual end connector, tho', is physically larger, tho' I'm not sure whther the connecting innards are. But, it doesn't 'click' into place and stay there like the other original one shown.
So, Q is - are there two different, but pretty close, connector types/sizes, or is the terminal on the card kaput, perhaps?
Thanks.

Your picture suggests you are connecting it to the screw that holds the card in place.  It should go where the black arrow is pointing.

Tee-hee - I'm not quite that daft
I was just holding the connector there so folks could see the actual fixing side of it.
Do you reckon the fixing is the correct one? Ta.

Sorry but I had to point it out, sometimes its not obvious

A quick shufty seems to suggest this may be a dual wifi/bluetooth card which may explain why it doesn't fit - Main 1 for WiFi and Aux 2 for Bluetooth.

It looks like it could be sightly larger, but that could be an artifact of the picture.

Most laptop Wi-Fi cards use U.FL (also known as IPEX or IPX) connectors which are 2mm. There's also MMCX (Micro-Miniature Coaxial) which is larger at 3.5mm and more robust than U.FL.

You U.FL you should feel a tiny resistance, then it will snap into place with a click if properly alignd.

The outer part of the connector is slightly larger than the other, original, one.
I've tried pressing it on firmly - even't gently using the long-nosed - but no 'click', and it falls off with a gentle touch.

This took an absurd amount of research to detemine, but there are different sizes of IPEX connector. The one I bought was a '1', and the WiFi board takes a '4' - which is smaller, but 'better'.
