Parking Charge Letter recieved - Northern Ireland - Advice needed

Hi,

I received a letter today for a parking charge.

I am the registered keeper but was not the driver.

In any case, the driver entered the car park but did not get out of the car due to torrential rain.

They sat for just over 10 minutes and then decided to leave the car park and go elsewhere.

The letter just shows entry and exit photos and the times but does not show the car sat in the same space with no one getting out of the car.

I have read the FAQS but I am unsure of the correct method to follow to appeal, as I am in Northern Ireland and it seems to be a different process for here.

Could anyone please advise me on what to do next?

I haven't included the name of the parking company yet as I read that they monitor these pages on the other thread but if this information is required then let me know.

Ignore them,  especially as you are not the driver  ( nobody expects you to appeal,  no keeper liability in N.I.  )

    But

If you are appealing as keeper,  then the FAQ advice in the newbies sticky thread in announcements is self explanatory

Q - ''I'm in Scotland/NI, so is the advice different?''

YES. IF THE EVENT TOOK PLACE IN SCOTLAND OR NORTHERN IRELAND, WE SUGGEST YOU DO (ALWAYS!) COMPLAIN TO STORE MANAGEMENT IF YOUR PCN IS FROM A RETAIL PARK, AND SEND THE USUAL TEMPLATE APPEAL FOR YOUR CASE, NOT SAYING WHO WAS DRIVING. HOWEVER, DO NOT TRY POPLA BECAUSE POPLA (IN A CASE THAT TOOK PLACE OUTSIDE ENGLAND/WALE) WILL REQUIRE YOU TO STATE IF YOU WERE DRIVING OR NOT, AND THAT IS THE ONE THING NOT TO DISCLOSE.

Thanks. I had read that post but the incident happened in a public car park, not a retail park so I wasn't sure if the template applied to me.

So do I just do nothing and it will go away?

Doesn't my signature cover it? You ignore.

Have you done a forum search & read other threads exactly like yours?

We can't quite say that "nothing will happen" because you haven't told us which PPC it is. There is one that litigates in NI.

As above,  you didn't identify the private parking company involved

Plan A always applies when it involves retail park management companies,  landlords, businesses and landowners,  regardless,  if the pcn is from a private parking company

    Thanks again.

The company is Smart Parking Ltd, based in Birmingham if that helps.

I had carried out a search but the results were either a few years old or were very specific to the posters case, so I wasn't exactly sure if the answers applied to me.

I maybe should have used broader search terms, but this is the first time I have ever had a letter like this so I really am a newbie when it comes to these matters and don't fully understand a lot of the responses.

I think the general consensus is, ignore it as they can't do a thing about it.

Smart never sue, not even in England. You can completely and utterly ignore them.

What you do when searching this forum is change 'best match' (LOL! It's not!) to NEWEST results instead. Try that.
