Put the money into a savings account in case you need any repairs.

    This...

3rd party warranties will have more cop outs that anything.

Agreed.  Just like any insurance policy, they're brilliant if you actually need them (and if they pay out), and I'm sure some people have saved a good chunk of money from having them.  For the vast majority, though, the list of exclusions is so extensive as to make them practically worthless (after all, the company providing the warranty is in it to make a profit, pure and simple).  Far better to put money aside into a savings account each month.

Would not go for third party cover. Main dealer warranty is hard to claim on.

I have kept my Peugeot main dealer warranty for 6 extra years and made 3 claims.
Claim 1, dealer lied and said blocked washer jets are not covered, had the car for 6 hours to tell me this.
My mechanic took 5 mins to tell me the washer pipe was split. Then I had to fight the dealer to get it done.
Claim 2, Adblue issue, No main dealer within 40 miles would look at the car foe 8/12 weeks and then another 6/8 weeks to fix. Had to drive 65 mines away, but scan done in 3 days. Part, adblue tank on back order.
A complaint to Peugeot ( I could go and get a genuine tank today ) sorted that and tank arrived 2 day later.
    All fixed in 2 weeks.
Claim 3, seat sensor & seat belt latch fault.
Started 29/09/24 finally sorted March 25.

Save £50 a month and pay for any work yourself.
What make and model, age etc would help with the advise you get.
ie Toyota, Save the money but will not need it until you buy another and will have a good deposit.

I’d go for the Volvo extended warranty if they do one. The manufacturer’s warranties tend to be more reliable and less of a risk than third party ones as the manufacturer doesn’t want the bad publicity of claims declined for dodgy reasons. Does tie you in to dealer servicing usually though.

Only look at a main dealer extended warranty. Don't go near 3rd party ones.

Or as others say, put the money in a savings account and keep your fingers crossed.

Have a search on the Volvo Owners Club forum, there are plenty of opinions and anecdotes on there about extended warrantees.

Several years ago I took out a Volvo extended warranty for my Volvo diesel. A couple of expensive repairs were needed and the cost of these exceeded the cost of the warranty. The warranty was only available for cars under a certain age (six??) so after this the car was no longer eligible.
The warranty was good value and money saving.
