Just a moan about HMRC

Options
I am in the fortunate position of having received enough interest on my savings to have underpaid income tax.  Rather than having the due monies deducted via a tax code I wanted to pay the outstanding amount as a lump sum.
The agent told me this morning that they can't take it over the phone, only by my personal cheque, a postal order, bankers draft or a third party cheque. I find this situation regressive in this digital age.
Just venting.

I don't fit any of the criteria:

    https://www.gov.uk/pay-tax-debit-credit-card

Pay HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for:

    • Self Assessment
    • employers’ PAYE and National Insurance
    • VAT
    • Corporation Tax
    • Stamp Duty Land Tax
    • Income Tax (because you previously under-paid)
    • imported goods you’ve declared on the Customs Declaration Service
    • miscellaneous payments (if your payment reference begins with ‘X’)

No, I have the HMRC app but it doesn't allow for payments.  I will be patient and bear the removal of monies from my superannuation (£200 this month) though I'd still prefer to pay it outright.

Am I being really thick?    Looking at that you do fit the criteria?

You're not being thick, neither am I! I was told that - perhaps I should call again next week. :(

The call centre will have no connection to the payments department , so will not be able to take payments over the phone.

Good luck getting a bank draft these days.  Lloyds have written to me to say they are no longer being offered.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Lots of bank accounts don’t have cheques any more.   I haven’t had a cheque book for nearly 14 years.
