And generally avoid Facebook Marketplace as I am convinced over half the buyers and sellers are scammers! 

I've seen a couple of programmes on TV recently which have quoted that about one third of Facebook Marketplace ads are scams

I was selling a phone and had someone over to collect, they did the fake bank transfer too but i remembered these fake apps being a thing a while back too so I kept checking my own app/account and nothing showed up. He used a METRO app and had a plausible story about how it would take a few hours maybe even showing google results where METRO has that on their website. So they are getting very clever with it.

Because it smelt fishy, I was firm and said you're not taking anything until I verify the money is on my account. He tried a few times with lines like 'take a picture of the verification code' etc. He even called my phone so I had his number and eventually he went away to 'wait at a coffee shop' and I could call him when the money was there. Obviously that never arrived and I'm sure his burner phone/sim went straight into the bin around the corner.

Dodged a bullet there luckily!
