Carers allowed plus self employed job.

I claim carers allowance.  I also need to work so a self employed ( non carer) part time job that will help me out 16 hours per week.
Will I have to pay National insurance as its included in Carers allowance.
The self employed job will take me over the £196 threshold to about £217 a week however I will have expenses , fuel , phone calls,  work clothing etc. How does this work as tax assessment will be done yearly but carers are saying you can't earn over £196 a week. Any advice as after expenses i will only earn the £196.

Yes, you can deduct your fuel, phone calls and work clothing.  However, they must be completely only for your job (no personal phone calls etc.).

If you look at this page (under "What kind of expenses can be deducted") it goes through what you can use as allowable expenses - but it does say to contact the Carers Allowance unit to check.

Don't forget that if it's decided that you are even 1p over the limit you completely lose the carers allowance so you have to be very careful.
