Can't get an appointment to fit Smart Meter

Having just bought an electric vehicle I'm keen to switch to an EV tariff to maximise the financial benefits. I've been trying (with British Gas) to arrange an appointment since January and, every time, there are no appointments available. About two months ago I raised a complaint and was told that I'd been placed on a list and would be emailed when an appointment was available. As yet nothing. I'm still checking online several times a week as well and every time - nothing.

It's getting hugely frustrating, especially having just seen an advert encouraging me to......get a smart meter!

Is anyone else in the same situation or has anyone found a way to speed things up?

Is it worth speaking to OFGEM,or any other regulatory body/ombudsman?

Don't know if it's relevant but I'm in Aberdeenshire.

Appreciate any advice.

It's a bad time to be looking for a smart meter. Most of the suppliers are currently focusing on their RTS customers, in preparation for the RTS switch-off that could happen as soon as next month.
Hopefully things will improve in the second half of the year.

Or move to Octopus. Not being a legacy supplier they probably don't have as many E7 meters to replace. Also they have a better selection of tariffs.

According to Elexon - Octopus are in the top 3 for RTS meters

Octopus are registerd under supplier MPID MRCY iirc / i.e. if I read the Elexon pdf list correctly (I might have gotten it wrong) - so still second in the queue.

Unfortunately both the 2016 and 2010 Elexon MPID table links are down - so cannot check again the info I posted in the post below - so anyone know a way of cross checking that code for Octopus - I thought they were second in the list about a month ago

But given the issues with users like @LL123LL - and his non RTS on going email exchanges to get them to agree on hos 5246C - maybe more than just a few of those 118,000 - are not in fact genuinely RTS.

There seem to be almost 1000 MPIDs. Here are the ones from the latest MDD that point to Octopus:

    MPID Market Participant
    AVRO Octopus Energy Limited
    BCFC Octopus Energy Limited
    EFLS Octopus Energy Limited
    EUST Octopus Energy Limited
    IRES Octopus Energy Limited
    MRCY Octopus Energy Limited
    LUME Octopus Energy Operations Ltd
    REGE Octopus Energy Operations Ltd
    COLO Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    FRST Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    GONG Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    QEEN Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    TULP Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    VIRG Octopus Energy Operations2 Ltd
    OEPD OCTOPUS ENERGY SERVICES LTD
    OESL OCTOPUS ENERGY SERVICES LTD
So yes, MRCY = Octopus Energy Ltd.

[The MDD is an enormous site, but well worth gaining access if you like snooping around in the intricacies of the energy market. There don't appear to be any restrictions on who can get authorization to use it: MDD
