my sons car is playing up ,bunny hopping and running high ,revving has he changes gear ,any ideas what the problem is before he takes it to the garage?

could be a sticky throttle linkage,but sounds more like an ECU/EMU fault whatever it is it shouldnt be to expensive as parts are very cheap for these cars

Assuming this is a petrol and doesn't have coil packs or whatever....

Try removing the spark plug leads and putting them back (one by one so they end up in the same place), both at the engine and distributor cap. Make sure they fit back firmly. Take off the distributor cap with leads attatched, clean inside it and spray a little WD40 in around the contacts on the inside. Replace it, and spray wd40 on top of the distributor cap, and across the spark plugs connectors. This *could* help, but I think chances are it won't, but since it's so easy and cheap to do it's worth a try.

Hey, it could well be the problem, and it could be something you didn't notice. I know my GF's mat has started curling with the cold weather recently. Better to start cheap and simple with some common sense than talking about the worst case scenario and repair jobs that will cost ££££.

I'll bet all too often people have gone into a garage with something that seems serious, and the garage has come up with all kinds of wonderful expensive repair ideas, only for the repair to not work as the fault is something pretty basic and simple elsewhere

Well your comments offer no help at all, mine were constructive, it could well be something as simple as a floor mat obstructing the free movement of the pedals.

Its a petrol ,year 1998/99 .

Could be either the MAP sensor or Idle control valve, depends on engine type. Maybe best to find either a local garage with diagnositic equipment or your Peugeot main dealer run a check on the Ecu's fault codes.
