Laser hair removal didn’t work - can I get money back?

Hi forum,

I wondered if anyone could help please. I recently booked laser hair removal sessions - was told I’d need about 8-10 sessions for it to last so booked 10.

It was all going well at first. Hair was growing back less and thinner and so I stopped going in regularly after the 9th session and thought let me save the 10th as I heard you may need a top up in a couple years.

After a few months, my hair started growing back near enough how it used to and now it’s essentially gone back to how it was so in all, the laser didn’t work or only has the effect near the times I have sessions which kind of defeats the purpose as it’s meant to be med to long term solution.

I’m quite disappointed as I did spend a pretty penny on these sessions as mentioned, I booked 10 sessions and in 4 different areas.

So, I just wondered if there are any money back guarantee rights in these sorts of situations?

The company is Thérapie Clinic. I got in touch with their customer service line and they mentioned that they can’t offer money back but book me in for another consultation to look at why and in turn book more sessions. As you can imagine, this really annoyed me - why would I pay for something again that I know doesn’t work or last.

My friend went on a laser journey earlier than me in some of the same body parts at a different company and she’s so happy with her results - total opposite of mine. So I'm unsure if it’s a Me problem or a clinic problem.

Please can anyone advise if there are any rights that can help me in terms of money back as I really feel like I have just given money away as I’m still dealing with these hair issues.

Many thanks in advance

Did they guarantee it wouldn't grow back?

I'm no expert but believe certain hair and skin types have better success rates.

Do you have any materials from them that give you any form of guarantee that you'd be hair free forever? I strongly suspect you dont because these are deeply personal things and results vary significantly depending on a range of factors.

There is no universal money back guarantee, some companies may offer such things but if they do they make a song and a dance about it and you would have marketing materials saying so. Again would be highly surprised if you did because even the best results dont result in a permanent total removal of body hair because thats not how skin/hair/laser works.

    Is laser hair removal permanent?

While laser hair removal can delay or inhibit the hairs from growing, it’s not always a permanent solution to unwanted hair – unless the follicle is completely destroyed. You’ll usually undergo between 6 and 10 sessions to notice a significant reduction, as well as maintenance treatments.

Is there a timeframe I must use my laser hair removal course in?

Pre-paid treatments are valid for specific time periods based on the number of courses purchased:

    • Per session – 3 months
    • Course of 3 – 18 months
    • Course of 6 – 18 months
    • Course of 10 – 18 months

Can't see any reason for a refund. Seems that they make it clear it is not a permanent solution.

Legally you wouldn't have a guarantee that it will stop YOUR hair growth, as different people have different reactions to it. They just have to perform the service with due skill.. so if they didn't use the right lasers or underpowered ones, then you may have an argument. But if they did their part and it didn't work, thats just how it goes.

In this sort of thing, it would be very hard to prove that they didn't use the right lasers, given they're in the company's possession.
