DRO 15 months ago defaults still being registered

Hi,

I had a DRO approved in January 2024. Completed January 2025.

One of my debts was a nationwide credit card. They have registered a default on my credit history every single month since the DRO was registered including this month (15 months later)

I have called nationwide who have advised they keep your account open for 15 months following a DRO encase it fails and have confirmed they will now mark it as settled.

My question is, should they still have been registering defaults every single month during the DRO and for 3 months after?

I questioned them if they would remove the default after my DRO ended as obviously it was officially settled in January and was told no, they will stay.

Is this correct? I have been searching the forums this morning and from what I've read this may not be correct.

They are the only debtor to have registered any defaults after the DRO was registered and I'm a bit confused as to why they can still register defaults despite the DRO being completed.

Thanks so much in advance

All creditors with debts included in a DRO should !!!!!! a default date that is the date of the DRO (Unless there was already an earlier default date already on there.)

After a default date is added, a new default is recorded each month until the debt is marked as satisfied or partially satisfied.

After a DRO has finished, all creditors should then mark the debt as satisfied or partially satisfied with the date the DRO ended.

So it was correct for nationwide to add a default and then continue to add defaults each month. But it was not correct of them to decide to do this for a further 15 months!

If they have now agreed to mark it as settled, that is good. There is no reason why they should delete this default. And the 3 month delay in marking the debt as settled won't make any difference to your credit score so its not worth bothering about.

But what have the other debts in the DRO done? You actually want them to add defaults from when the DRO started and should complain if they havent.

Defaults drop off after 6 years. A default at the start of your DRO will then drop off at the same time the DRO marker does, and your record is clear. If there is no default your credit record will still be a mess after the DRO goes in 6 years.

What you see on your credit file is just a monthly update of the default status of your account, its not a new default every month, a debt only defaults once.

Defaults show on file for 6 years regardless of any actions taken.
