octopus reported missed payment but not missed!

hi,
so octopus had backed-billed me for 9 months as there was an issue with gas/ smart meter reporting.
i usually pay bill every month by logging on and paying with debit card.
when they back-billed me they added £1000 to my account which i could not pay in one go so spoke to them and paid this off over 3 months and i have now setup a direct debit.
The 3 months where my balance was quite big (which i was still physically paying) they have marked x3 missed payments on my credit report, they are saying they are allowed to do this as i did not have a direct debit setup at this time.
is this right? surely if payments of £300+ per month were paid and not missed they can’t mark this as missed?

It sounds like they offered you a payment plan - allowing you to spread the repayment over three months. So technically you did "miss a payment", since you didn't repay the £1000 immediately - albeit you kept to the terms of the repayment plan.It does seem harsh, but unfortunately it's technically correct.1

Yes, they came to a repayment agreement, but the fact remains that you were contractually bound to pay the £1000 there and then.Sorry, I'm not meaning to sound argumentative, that's not my intention at all. Rather I'm just trying to outline why - as noted by the previous poster - you have no grounds for disputing the missed payment marker, nor for "taking it further".
