I have recently been given a one off payment from work that is taxable, and I have paid an incredible amount of it to student loan.
Can you request a refund for a one off payment, as it isn't a true reflection of what you earn?

As you were already over the repayment threshold then you should have been charged 9% of the gross figure (or 6% if it is a post-grad student loan).0 -
What was the one off payment for - if say a signing bonus or catching up a few months pay, thats still pay so you should still get the student loan deducted (depends on which plan you are, but its usually a % of your income above a certain threshold).
If you share the numbers involved then we might be able to help - if they're assuming you earn the same every month then it might be a mistake, but if not then yes a large payment is still income and so would still incur the student loan payment.0 -
If your income for the year is over the threshold then you can’t claim anything back, assuming it was calculated correctly. If your income for the year was less than the threshold then you can claim it back.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
