Any bank account should work if you destroy the debit card and don't have online banking. (If you are forced to have online banking, you could put in a long complicated password you have no chance of remembering and not record it anywhere.)

If you did want to lock yourself out from accessing the account but still want to see payments going out, you could get good old fashioned paper statements in the post. Some banks still do this, but usually charge a small fee, but the amount you'll save should (hopefully) easily cover this.

@Char285 I do not believe that there is bank account that has restrictions to protect you from a lack of self control.  Perhaps placing any spare cash in a notice account might help but, ultimately, you are an adult and no institution has the right to deny you access to your own money.

Most bricks and mortar current account providers don't charge for paper statements - they simply make them electronic by default and you need to specifically opt into paper statements.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I forgot I wrote this thread. My direct debits seem to be all over different days and my income is a combination of different days and amounts (single parent with a low wage topped up by UC etc). I keep telling myself I'm going to change them to the same date but that requires me to contact each individual company and then I get stressed and executive dysfunction kicks in and I shut down. Maybe Il task myself with trying to do 1 a week and anything over is a bonus. Sometimes I get the occasional hyper focus and can be great but that only works if I'm changing the direct debit with enough notice.

Destroying the card wouldn't work because I'd just transfer out of the account online and paper statements wouldn't because I get extremely anxious and need to be able to check that bills have been paid. I will look into Monzo with the pots though.

Ultimately I know I'm an adult and need to be in more control but it's a fighting battle with myself that I often lose. I thought about entrusting the mobile banking account with a family member but my sister has bipolar and it wouldn't work and there isn't really anyone else.

I know banks can't stop you from taking your money but if they offered one where you could only withdraw from branch that would have really deterred me (rural living and the nearest branch is 45 minutes away).

Maybe il contact Barclays anyhow and see if there's anything in the way of this they could offer. They might appreciate the input from a Neuro-Divergent user. I just feel like I'm not the only person that would benefit from this.

Aah. Wrote an essay in response. Apologies. Thanks for reading all.

pleade do not apologise for updating.

I have been asked by my daughter ( also nuero divergent)  about trying to set up a bank account similar to what you are suggesting, and for much the same reasons..

The information given in this thread has been very helpful. So, from you initial question, I and i am sure many others have benefitted.

It is possible to shift direct debits to another day, particularly if you emphasis your medical reasons for it being beneficial, if it helps you could have them all on a day say 2 days after payday

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

If you do try Monzo and know someone IRL who also has a Monzo account, ask them for a referral link since you can get an easy tenner (with a slight chance of 20 or even 50) just by making 1 card payment.

The pots are quite good for budgeting and direct debits. It shows the balance separately to the current account. Monzo also has this feature that lets you sort incoming payments of £100 or more into the different pots and allows you to save that configuration.

Ideally I'm looking for an account that I can see in my online banking, can deposit into, can pay direct debits from but can't transfer out of without going into branch and can't withdraw from the cash machine.

    Anyone have any advice please?

Santander allows you to restrict your online banking access to "view-only" as a security measure. This means you can still log in and see your account details, transaction history, and balances, but you won't be able to perform any financial transactions or make changes to your account. To change your access to "view-only," you can do so through online banking settings or by contacting their helpdesk.

I believe you can't disable the option once selected without talking to the help desk.
