OK, so if you're going to haggle, be prepared! Sat 7th, I rang sky, as I was out of contract on all services. TV and broadband. I compared deals and saw BT offering pretty much the same deal for £13p/m for 6 months, then £64 thereafter. (24 month contract)
I told the agent I wanted to cancel, she was pleasant but sarcastic and condescending. She offered me £3 off p/m!!! I was paying £82. That was 150GB Internet, and sky tv ultimate. No movies or sport.
I said that wasn't going to be enough for me to stay and she didn't hesitate in cancelling my services. "We are soooo sorry to see you leave after 15 years" she said sarcastically. Obviously they have no obligation to offer anything to keep you, but this honestly took me back slightly. But, as I knew I could get the deal with BT, I thought, well, if that's the attitude, I'd rather pay another company anyway. So, haggling doesn't always work, and I was polite and never rude once. The reason I post this is to say, make sure you have a back up. As Anne Marie, was not in a good mood lol. I'm now moving over to BT after 15 years of sky, loyalty does not pay.
Good luck to anyone else!

OP, you usually have to give 30 days notice, so expect Sky retentions team to get back in touch after a week or so. I think they are wise to the half hearted threat to leave, so they maybe thought you were bluffing, but the jokes on them. To be fair, £64 a month seems quite expensive still. I know Virgin get some bad press but we get a fairly all singing and dancing package that was £70 a month, just gone up to £75 a month (includes Sky Sports and Movies, Netflix etc.)0

When I cancelled years ago retentions phoned at an inconvenient time but agreed to phone back the next day.Never heard from them again so Sky and I parted company.
