Landline phone problem

We recently changed broadband contract to EE, the contract including broadband, landline and calls.
The phone is now digital and working fine, though there is a problem when needing to press a digit in response to a caller's request.
For example, we had a call in which we needed to press the star button in order to receive a code from the bank. I tried several times but pressing the button failed to work, and I eventually sorted out by requesting a text message to my mobile.
Similar happened yesterday, when asked to press a number to continue the call, the response failed to register, and unable to proceed.
Is this likely to be something that can be resolved through settings, or do we need new digital phones?
Thanks for help.

I’d suggest calling EE's customer support , they may be able to fix why when the phone sends a sound tone (DTMF) down the line it's not picked up at the far end.1

Thanks, I will see what they say.
