How do I delete what's app from my android phone?

Hi, I wondered how I would delete what's app, from my android phone.

 I struggle with tech, and really only want to have basic 'calling' and 'texting sms'. As anything else just overwhelms/overloads me.

I just want to be able to normal text. 

When I bought my phone, the man in the shop did it/installed it.
He transfered my contacts, and they are now showing as 'what's app'.

But I don't know how to delete ( I think it's an app)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Press and hold whatsapp icon, then uninstall.

@FrugaiMacDugal's idea is fine provided you have all your contacts saved elsewhere and not just in WhatsApp.

Do you have a Google account set up and all the contacts backed up and set to be saved there?

I don't have a Google account as far as I'm aware...

I really struggle with tech. Hence only wanting texts and calls.

But my old phone died on me so I had to replace it. But  i only want the basics, as everything else confuses me (I am quite old, and due to my neurological condition I struggle to learn anything new)
