Santander no longer paying cashback for Octopus Gas & Electricity, Hopefully being resolved?

    I have also not received cashback for my latest Octopus DD which was taken on 27th March.  All other cashback payments received 6th April. I hadn't even noticed the  ommision until OP pointed it out.   Octopus cashback is only £1  for me

    My last Octopus DD on 10th April is showing as "DIRECT DEBIT PAYMENT TO OCTOPUS ENERGY". No mention of GC. Perhaps Santa has already fixed the problem. Without that cashback, my 123 Lite would be only pennies up on the Everyday account after the £2 is taken, which would hardly be worth the extra complication.

    I'm with Octopus and have a Santander 123 Lite account. I've just found out that this month since the change  I didn't get 2% cashback on my energy bill which is normally paid on or around the 7th of each month.
    Here's Santander's message....................................

    I am sorry Octopus energy customers were informed that they were changing their direct debit provider to GoCardless.

    This is why the DD in this case was amended to the name GC Octopus Energy on the 11th March 25.

    It has not been picked up as a qualifying direct debit as it is being processed with a different originator number that we do not recognise.


    I will give it some time to see if this changes and then I'll consider moving to another account.

    The DD on my 123 Lite was last taken on April 8, for Octopus Energy. The transaction details visible in the app also only Octopus Energy. No GC in sight in the account. However, the DD mandate now shows GC re Octopus Energy Limited, and this change seems to have happened on March 21 2025 on my account.

    My cashback gets paid on or around the 30th of a month. The last one still paid my 2% for March. I will have to keep an eye on this end of April - fingers crossed Santander will have fixed the issue by then.

    Hmm, all seems ok here...(123 lite)

    Usual DD taken on 1st April for £106.29, stating Octopus Energy 

    2% cashback paid today of £2.13

    I assume they round up😉

    (Had the usual others for CT, water and BB)

    ETA - I'll check the future DD details when I'm on the laptop tomorrow 
    How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.98% of current retirement "pot" (as at end April 2025)

    Do the diredt debit regulations allow Santander to change the person/organisation being paid by a direct debit without contacting the customer?

    Yes my mandate now says "GC re Octopus Energy Limited", but my debits went out on Feb 28, and I get cashback on the 25th so I'm pretty much a month behind, but March 28 went out as "Octopus Energy" so in theory it should be okay for April 25.  Time will tell.

    It looks like on my account its a new direct debit as there's no last payment date on it.  On Santander it says at the top if nothing's gone out for two months there is no last payment date on it.

    same here. paid April 1st and CB added 3rd April. DD now has the GC reference dated 9th April as a start date.

    So I've just logged on and yes, the next due DD is showing as "GC re Octopus Energy Limited", wef 11/04/25

    It has the same reference number, but is a new DD as it is listed as "#0039" rather than "#0036" as was.

    If they don't sort it out amongst themselves, is this going to require some "people power" to get the cashback recognised going forwards?   Santander will blame Octopus, Octopus will blame Santander and round we go...

    It's only £24 to me, and basically covers the account fee, but isn't the max £5 per month, so could be a loss of £60 for some?

    Should we be pro-active and query now, rather than wait to see if we get cashback next month?

    My octopus £250 DD went out on 1st April but have not received my £5 cashback this month on the 9th like my other utilities. Quite annoying.
