To update, ARAG have agreed to pay a different lawyer, this time I was allowed to nominate a non-panel firm if they agreed to operate within certain guidelines, which I thought might start the thing moving. But there has still been no action to actually quantify the damages or present the claim to the builder's insurer, and I first reported the problem to my insurance in April 2025.

The good builders have finished the work, so we do finally have a functional house again, which is a huge relief. But sadly, the bad builder has caused similar problems for someone else (judging by the photos in their review on checkatrade) and - to nobody's surprise - is also on the cusp of being struck off companies house for not filing accounts and appears not to have paid their taxes.
