Hi looking for help - I owed BT £43 I stepped away from being a customer for a month and rejoined and started my account with them. I was unaware I had a balance of £43 for equipment not returned I can’t find the proof of postage and we are some years on. I only noticed it when I started being contacted by a company called Lowell and it appeared on my credit file. I have retrospectively paid the £43 to BT as I have always been a customer of theirs paying every month. However I cannot get the default notice removed from my credit file for Lowell which is irritating as for £43 I have excellent credit history. Any advice? For example because BT have taken payment are Lowell entitled to say I have a default with them?

BT will have issued the default
Lowell buy the debt, BT mark their debt as settled and Lowell issue a default with the same start date as BT
Your credit record should be an accurate representation of your history, a correctly applied default will not normally be removed unless BT or Lowell agreeSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
