Why does it seem like there's never any jobs?!

I won't give me real location but for example I'll go to the BT website and type in "essex" and it'll return 0 jobs. Like seriously the entire company of BT has 0 jobs in the whole county of essex?

Let's try national rail, I type in my post code and select 30 mile radius and 0 jobs.

How about the entire local council of where I live? 2 jobs... One is a corporate strategy advisor position offering £90k a year and the other is a band 9 psychologist lol.

Lastly let's check my cities general hospital, which according to google employs 3,000 staff. dun dun duuuuun 4 jobs, all of which are degree dependant, so professional positions.

Where are all the low / entry level jobs?

I currently have a job but just out of curiosity I decided to look for something new and none of the "big employers" seem to have barely any jobs at all.

Yes there are plenty of jobs for example when I type my post code into indeed (without typing a keyword) it returns over 800 jobs.

But then you look at the kind of jobs it shows and they're all small businesses with part time positions or fixed term contracts etc.

Makes you wonder how anyone actually gets a job in a large well established organisation. I imagine 1 entry level job goes up and 500 people apply for it in the first 24 hours.

Insanity.

Large organisations have outsourced many of their lower paid jobs. You will find some admin jobs in local hospitals but cleaning, catering, security etc will all be provided by the big companies like Serco, Mitie etc.

Other jobs like reception, support worker, estates are all advertised through NHS jobs not the hospital. Excluding qualified practitioners for the local hospital trust offered over 100 jobs, although some were plainly not entry level and I thought ENT doctor might require registration!

They do however now seem to be looking at asking you to provide a profile, and then matching you to roles.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

I think a small business is far less reliable that a large company.

A small businesses profits can turn on a dime and could lose your job without much warning. Most don't offer matched pension contributions passed the minimum amount.

Entirely possible yes, it depends where the hub office is.
Let's try national rail, I type in my post code and select 30 mile radius and 0 jobs.
Again entirely possible, National Rail employ primarily based around major depots, not all over the country.
How about the entire local council of where I live? 2 jobs... One is a corporate strategy advisor position offering £90k a year and the other is a band 9 psychologist lol.
I am not sure what is humorous about a Band 9 psychologist? Most councils have a recruitment freeze on at the moment for all but essential jobs or approved jobs, this is due to budget constraints and the upcoming elections.
Lastly let's check my cities general hospital, which according to google employs 3,000 staff. dun dun duuuuun 4 jobs, all of which are degree dependant, so professional positions.
As others have said, many roles are outsourced, not advertised by the hospital itself, or even the NHS trust.
Where are all the low / entry level jobs?
That depends, there are not a huge amount of them around at the moment anyway as the economy is very flat and the economic outlook is poor. However if you look at the large subcontractors, supermarkets, distributors etc. they are all still advertising, though it is location dependant.
I currently have a job but just out of curiosity I decided to look for something new and none of the "big employers" seem to have barely any jobs at all.
People are not moving jobs, people are not leaving jobs, to fewer jobs need to be advertised. On top of that business is only currently recruiting for critical jobs due to the economic outlook.
But then you look at the kind of jobs it shows and they're all small businesses with part time positions or fixed term contracts etc.
Nothing wrong with SMEs, they employ more than the large businesses across the UK. Fixed term contracts are quite common for a lot of roles and part time work is also in demand.
Makes you wonder how anyone actually gets a job in a large well established organisation. I imagine 1 entry level job goes up and 500 people apply for it in the first 24 hours.
Word of mouth, being on the ball when jobs are advertised, being proactive and sending in CVs ahead of jobs being advertised etc. Either that or you are looking for the wrong kind of jobs and/or jobs in the wrong location.
    Insanity.
Failing to understand the jobs market is very different from insanity.

Real location is fairly important because if you are in the middle of nowhere its understandable that there are fewer roles.

Companies can have different recruitment strategies depending on grade... entry level jobs, even if they are done in house, will often go off to recruitment agencies on a contingent basis as they can deal with the hundreds of enquiries. High value roles are dealt with in house as at that point the fees of agencies hurt more and you get less applicants for s Strategy Advisor than a call centre advisor.

Why looking directly at companies rather than at the likes of Indeed.com or Monster which has both employers and agencies advertising? The former has over 8,000 jobs in Essex

It seems possible that BT might not have any jobs advertised within Essex.

It is also possible that the software is not recognising "Essex" as a place.  Does the software expect a post-code or a town / city to be entered?

Many companies have ceased all recruitment because of the added costs from the Budget.  They have just started to bite.  There will be many more people looking for ever fewer jobs before long.
I just did a search for jobs in my local NHS area and it showed more than 60.  No idea why yours would show so few, other that stated above.

Some of the "big employers" have shut up shop and left town, e.g. High St banks and chain stores.  Government Departments such as HMRC have closed many (if not all) local offices. Many councils have merged into unitary authorities, so only one council where previously two or three or more. So huge numbers of admin jobs have gone.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
