Its not cheap, youre typically paying circa £100 per day and trips are LONG... Germany to South Africa is about 30 days one way. No onboard entertainment laid on for you, very limited internet connection if any at all,GringoGoesToVagas said:Dose anyone know if they still do it these days?

There used to be an agency, Strand Travel, that acted as an agent for the cargo ships but checking now it appears to have gone into liquidation. I found cargoshipvoyages.com based in the Isle of Wight but they posted three days ago on April 8th that " Since major shipowners and/or their charterers unilaterally withdrew support for this popular activity, with few exceptions, deep sea intercontinental voyages are no longer possible" I am not sure of anywhere else to look, sorry!0

I think the days of Michael Palin and Around the World in 80 days where he hopped from ship to ship are long gone.0

but thanks everyone; it was worth a shot in the dark for a money saving trip ideaHuman Rights Act 1998, Article 10"Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. I don't think it was ever particularly cheap. We looked at this a few years ago, but the costs where comparable or more expensive than taking a cruise on a similar route - and it was never going to be cheaper than flying.GringoGoesToVagas said:

Its not money saving because the journey takes so long and the fee includes your bed & board... its something you do because you like the idea of being a month or two with virtually no contact with the outside world and contained in a small area.GringoGoesToVagas said:

There is a German company, SlowTravel, that still offers some limited routes but they average at €110/night0
