Travel Insurance - money back

Does anyone know the likelihood of getting a refund due to exceptional circumstances. I broke my heel and cannot travel, my dad also took a stroke a week later. I am insured but my boyfriend wasn’t as the holiday was a surprise so he was due to purchase it just before these events happened. Asked to speak to a manager at Tui- they called back twice and each time the call was silent. I called back and was told that he left a voice message- there was no voice message!  It’s only 23 days until we were due to travel and they said if insurance company can’t pay admin fees of 90% then it will cost £50 each to amend and we would lose 90% of the money paid OR I could cancel. Just looking for similar situations and the outcome

The people on the insurance policy will be able to claim their share of the cost as long as the insurance policy includes 'unable to travel due to illness or injury'. The person not insured will not. If you paid for all of it then you will lose the amount you paid for the boyfriend; which is why you should have put him on the insurance at the start
