New solar install and SEG setup
Looking for a bit of advice
I had solar panels and battery installed at the beginning of the year and I'm looking at the the best (most expedient!) way to get shifted over to a SEG tariff.
Just about to come off a fix with EDF and have a SMETS1 meter installed. I'm looking to move over to the Eon nextdrive fixed tariff as this seems to currently give the best combo of cheap night rate and export rates (no EV but looking to charge the batteries overnight and export excess solar).
Does it make sense to switch to Eon first and then go through the SEG application/setup or would it be faster to do this with EDF? Will the SMETS1 meter need replacing and is that better done by EDF or Eon?
thanks!

I'd be inclined to switch first then setup the export tariff. In my experience trying to switch both import and export together tends to confuse things.
As to the meter it depends what make it is. If it's a Secure then it should work fine,

What you need is an export MPAN. For this you will require the approval letter for your installation from the the DNO and the MCS certificate. Ideally, your installer will have already forwarded those to you. If not, chase them up. You'll need to forward them to the supplier, with you export application.
I'd move to the new supplier first. When they are enrolling you on to the export tariff they'll check that the meter is sending export readings. If it is OK, then it should be fairly straightforward. It took less than a week, for me, with Octopus. If the meter isn't sending readings then they'll change it for a SMETS2, but how long that will take is luck of the draw.1 -
I suggest getting it done asap too, you're missing out on all this lovely sunshine earning you some £££££Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Thought Octopus did not necessarily need the MCS cert and DNO only required above a certain size?0
