At the moment, I do not understand enough to invest in bond and gilts (I have done some reading ) I am 100% in equity..

Good luck researching bonds, gilts and look at other fixed interest, I have warmed to them, the certainty of the returns has merit but I am further along the FIRE path than you and as I said I have been >90% equities for decades.
100% equity is bumpy if profitable.

rebalancing a fixed equity/bond ratio might smooth the bumps and harvest some gains and temper large drops, but what do I know? Might not and could hamper gains.

Bonds and Gilts are far easier to understand than equities once you start delving beneath the surface.
